How is Warde becoming sustainable
Khalil Warde: Using a zero-waste strategy
At least 7% of the waste currently stored in landfills around the world is made up of clothing and textiles. Only 20% of the discarded textiles in the world are collected, resulting in 92 million tons of textile waste annually.
Being a part of the sector, we are confident that these figures will significantly change if manufacturers, retailers, and consumers give reuse of their textiles more consideration.
Warde has been implementing an eco-friendly approach in addition to introducing fabrics created from organic resources and recycled polyester. This is how:
-
Recycling & Reducing Paper consumption
At our offices, team members are encouraged to skip using paper and going digital instead. Going paperless has saved us paper waste and considerably decreased our environmental impact.
When paper is absolutely essential, offices are given recycling boxes, which the Live Love Recycle team picks up every week to be recycled.
-
Donating and reusing deadstock fabrics
Although Warde has a limitless supply of fabric, as long as it is in our stores, none of it is wasted.
All textiles that are no longer being sold in the store are utilized to make tote bags that customers can take home with them, providing them with eco-friendly bags to use for shopping or going out.
Most of our deadstock fabrics go to small businesses that use them to make exquisite works of art and clothing, in addition to being donated to charities to be used for clothes, handcrafts and bedding. Among the small businesses we support are:
- Echo Her Eco
- TaTache
- Fabric Aid
- Beit Tamanna
- Koko Bag
